A PIN is a unique 27 alpha-numeric code used to verify Microsoft Office was purchased at a participating retailer. Customers will go to www.office.com/getkey
to exchange their PIN for a Microsoft Office Product Key. A PIN can only be used once to obtain a Product Key.
Is a PIN the same thing as a Product Key?
The PIN is printed inside the Microsoft Office Product Key Card that you purchased. To find your PIN, open the packaging and pull the tear away tab to expose the 27 character alpha-numeric code.

My PIN is not working, what should I do?
No. A PIN is used to verify Microsoft Office was purchased at a participating retailer and is used to obtain a Product Key. An Office Product Key is used to install, activate, and use Office products. You cannot use a PIN to install Office.
What is a Product Key?
If your PIN is not working, try the following:
Verify the PIN was entered correctly. PIN is not case sensitive and is alpha-numeric.
Make sure the PIN has not already been used to obtain an Office Product Key. A PIN can only be used once to obtain a Product Key. If the PIN has already been used, you can log into your account with your Microsoft account (if you established it when the PIN was first entered) to access your Product Key or you can check your email for the confirmation email you received when the PIN was first consumed to access your Product Key.

Do I need a Product Key to install my Microsoft Office Software?
Product Keys are used to install, activate, reinstall, or repair your Office programs. It is important to keep your Product Keys in a safe place.
Why should I use my existing Windows Live Account or create a new one?
Yes. You will need your Product Key to install Microsoft Office.
Will you send me an email confirmation with my Product Key?
Using your existing Windows Live account or creating a new account will allow you to access your Office Product Key at any time on-line in the future. It is important to use an account and password that is familiar to you to allow you to obtain easy access to your information and to receive email confirmation that will include your Product Key.
What happens if I lose my Office Product Key?
Yes. An e-mail containing your Office Product Key will be sent to the e-mail address associated with your Microsoft account or to the e-mail you provided if you skipped account setup.
If you are using an e-mail spam blocker tool or junk mail filter, make sure you can receive e-mail messages from microsoft.com.
I registered all of my Microsoft software, why don't I see all of the product keys I own?
If you lose your Office Product Key you can return to www.office.com/getkey
and sign in using the 'Sign In' link in the top right corner of the page. This will retrieve your Office Product Key if you established your account with your Microsoft account. If you did not setup a Microsoft account initially there is no record of your Product Key on-line. Check your e-mail since this is the only record of your Product Key.
Can I store all my Product Keys on this site?
This site is only used to store Product Keys for products purchased from a participating retailer and obtained with a PIN.

How long does it take to download Microsoft Office?
A customer who purchases a new PC can choose to purchase an Office Home and Student traditional disc version or the new Office Home and Student Product Key Card. If a customer only needs one installation for one PC and does not need or want a disc, they can purchase the Product Key Card. They will then obtain their 25 character alpha-numeric Product Key using their 27 character alpha-numeric PIN located inside the Product Key Card to obtain their Product Key and to download and install the software.
Download times vary by location and internet speed connection. If you have an internet connection greater than 2700 kbps you can download and use Office in under one hour.
